Tottori Prefecture’s Ushinoto-yaki pottery, fashioned by Ushinoto kamamoto, or potters. The modern design of vividly differentiated teal and black coloring and deep, beautiful colors, as well as the well-rounded form of the pieces, are compelling to people of any era. It was an invention of Shoya Yoshida, who contributed to the emergence of a mingei folk craft industry in Tottori. Mingei are practical craft items for use in daily life. A number of kamamoto are at work around Tottori, offering opportunities to encounter gorgeous craft items. The Folk Crafts Shop Takumi, Tottori sells craft items from across Japan. Nextdoor is the dozo-zukuri (earthen-wall storehouse style) Tottori Mingei Museum, a registered Tangible Cultural Property which exhibits crafts from Japan and around the world. Also pay a visit to the Takumi Kappoten restaurant, where you can enjoy traditional cuisine using local ingredients and served in craft ceramics.(This information is as of December 2017)
