The gallery, which was renovated in autumn 2017, has an extensive range of traditional craftwork items that have been adapted to perfectly match contemporary lifestyles while also making full use of traditional techniques. These include the “Kagawa Shikki” wooden dish, which takes on an increasingly sophisticated luster the longer the lacquered articles are used; “Botaori”, a textile with a charm that lies in its simplicity and how good it feels against the skin; and “Kude Shoji”, which are a type of wooden ornament made without the use of nails based on techniques used to create ornamented translucent paper screens. At the gallery you can pick the items up, look closely at them, and gain in-depth knowledge about their history and backstories.
