Large numbers of casual and cheap “izakaya” (Japanese-style pubs) can be found in the entertainment districts of cities throughout Japan. Nikuchan is a highly original shop that has fused the charms of these izakaya with teppanyaki restaurants that grill high-quality cuts of meat with the utmost attention. The staff are most proud of their wide variety of steaks, which are taken from domestic wagyu cattle that are bought whole by the barbeque restaurant chain to which Nikuchan belongs. The steaks are served with Japanese condiments such as soy sauce, wasabi, rock salt, and so on. They have a wide-ranging menu that also covers many of the dishes typically served at izakaya such as boiled beef tendons and chilled tofu, as well as rice bowl-type dishes that are typically eaten at the end of the night. The shop is suitable for a variety of situations including using it as a place to eat dinner or as the second or third pub on a night out on the town. The low-alcohol beer-flavored beverage “Hoppy”, which has been popular since the post-war period , is, when mixed with shochu liquor, a recommended drink to have with a meal. The shop’s counter area has an atmosphere reminiscent of outdoor stalls, and if you manage to get a seat there you will be able to shrink the distance between yourself and the locals, making the experience even more memorable and fun.
