The renowned Kamoizumi sake is made from the iron-free spring water that flows from Mt. Ryuo. This water is only found in this area in Saijo, Hiroshima. That is why there are eight breweries clustered together within walking distance. This is rarity in Japan, and people stroll along Sakagura-dori, making repeated tasting visits to the breweries along the street.
At the sprawling grounds of Kamoizumi Shuzou, you can see a part of the sake brewing process while taking in the interior of the spacious brewery. There is also a parlor and library with books on sake, where you can deepen your knowledge about sake. The parlor serves up over 20 different sakes and sweets made from sake, such as sake-kasu (sake lees) mousse for 350 yen.
Kamoizumi Shuzou Co., Ltd. was founded in 1912. From the 1960’s, it embarked on the rebirth of traditional Japanese sake, made with only rice and kome koji (malted rice).
The Shusenkan parlor, where you can sample sake, and the Aisenkan, where you can experience indigo dyeing, are located on the brewery premises. Open Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from 10:00-17:00.
