An elegant space unique to a granary, with a high ceiling and earthen walls, embraces the people who visit here.
This café is located in the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter, where a good old Japanese townscape still remains, and is run by a kimono shop with around 150 years of history. The building is a remodeled rice granary, constructed down a stone-paved alley on the premises. With its stately ceiling beams, and paintings by Bernard Leach and Shiko Munakata, the beauty of this space is overwhelming. It’s the afternoon tea, made by the patissier, that you really should try in this dignified space. Appetizers, soups, meat dishes, miniature sweets, baked confections – all of the foods here are genuine masterpieces. The Japanese tableware and the tiered cake stand are beautiful, and you can enjoy them together with the ubiquitous feeling of Japanese tradition.(This information is as of April 2018)
Walk down the approach to the café, and you may feel like you’ve slipped back in time.
