The restaurant opens for business by raising its noren curtains at 8 p.m. It quickly becomes lively with waves of customers, from local regulars to tourists, who come to savor the authentic homemade udon. Within the menu filled with numerous udon dishes, the star attraction is the Curry Udon. It’s so famous that there is a saying in Kagawa Prefecture, also known as the udon prefecture, “finishing off a night on the town calls for a bowl of Tsurumaru’s curry udon.”
Instead of being pre-made, the firm udon noodles are freshly made everyday and boiled fresh when ordered. The curry, which is slowly boiled with spices and dried sardines, tastes wonderful with beef and vegetables, and you’ll find yourself unable to stop eating. Although there are rows of famous restaurants with homemade udon in Takamatsu City, most of them are only open until the evening. This restaurant is open late into the night and valued as a place to enjoy an authentic bowl of noodles after drinks. (This information is as of September 2019)
Most customers order the famous Curry Udon (700 yen).
Enjoy dashi-seeped Oden (from 100 yen) while waiting for your udon. Take the pieces you want on a dish with the self-service style. The Tofu (300 yen), on the right of the photo, should be eaten with the homemade mustard vinegared miso made from sweet miso and mustard.
