Wisteria, a native flower of Japan, have long been loved for their beauty along with cherry blossoms. There are numerous colors and varieties of wisteria, including the noble purple flowers, cute pinks, and tidy whites, and they reach full bloom in early May. The sight of the flower clusters in full bloom hanging down and overlapping is extraordinary, looking just like hazy purple rain. You will be enthralled with the beauty of these dignified yet transient flowers and their sweet fragrance.
Fuji Park in Wake Town, Okayama Prefecture is famous as the park with the most wisteria varieties in Japan. The Fuji festival, or Wisteria festival, is held from the end of April to early May, and attracts many tourists from Japan and abroad who want to see the superb scenery of late spring. In particular, the scale of the wisteria trellises measuring a total of 500 meters is magnificent. There are paths beneath the trellises, so you can see an up-close view of the elegant flowers as you are enveloped by them.
