After arriving on the island you will be greeted by cats at the port, at shrines, on the roadsides—everywhere you go. The island apparently has more cat residents than humans, and their presence is so noticeable that the island is now commonly referred to as “cat island”. The sight of “flying cats” jumping around on the breakwater walls is particularly famous and the walls are becoming increasingly popular spots for cat lovers to take dynamic cat photos.
For those who want to escape from the hustle and bustle of the town and have a relaxing break on the island, a stay in a guesthouse built in a renovated wooden elementary school building is just the thing. Chat with other guests at the guesthouse or have a leisurely lunch at the guesthouse’s café…. Guests can savor the slow pace of island life anyway they wish. (This information is as of November 2017)
